A Starling Spectacle
Any winter visitors to Cornwall can see one of the most stunning spectacles of murmuring starlings coming into roost from across the county at Rough Tor, just outside Camelford.
For those who aren’t familiar with this amazing scene of synchronised flight, it happens when large flocks of birds come home to roost in the evenings. They whirl around in their thousands, making beautiful constantly changing patterns in the sky. Displays can last for over an hour and never fail to amaze.
Take a look at these pictures taken this month (with thanks to Claire Salzmann for her beautiful photos) – The starlings will be performing most evenings from now until March, free entry – no seat reservations!
The idea of watching a murmuring of starlings may seem even more enticing with the prospect of a cosy Cornish cottage to retire to with a blazing wood-burning fire? Tregolls Farm Cottages has limited availability for short breaks during the winter months. Email Marilyn for more information and prices, or look at our website.
