    Hidden delights of the Roseland

    March 27, 2017

What a lovely weekend we’ve had!  Blue sky and warm sun made a walk along the South West Coastal path look mighty attractive!

There are lots of walks around this beautiful part of the Roseland Peninsula.  One of the many options is a 3.5 mile walk from Gerrans, down into pretty Portscatho and along the cliffs to Towan Beach.   As you will see from the pictures, on a sunny day the sea is a stunning azure blue.  Skylarks sing above you as you take an easy, mainly flat walk along, accompanied by the sound of the sea crashing on the rocks below, and a saltiness in the air.  There are a number of benches along the way, to catch your breath and enjoy the views.  When you get to Towan, just head inland for a parallel walk back through farmland tracks back to Gerrans.

You may have heard of the Porthcurnick’s worst kept secret, following the Caroline Quentin documentary “Cornwall” (2012-13) but if not, just extend your walk by another 15 minutes, and walk down to Porthcurnick car park, down to the beach and follow the steps back up to The Hidden Hut.

After all that walking you will be ready for the delights of this lovely café, which serves gorgeous home-cooked foods, from cakes to delicious lunches.  What really makes the Hidden Hut special, however, is their renowned Feast Nights, where guests are served such things as Paellas, curries, tagines and many others, cooked outside in giant pans.  Be warned, these Feast nights are booked up within seconds (and I mean seconds) of going on sale, so you have to be super-fast with your typing to get a ticket!  For those less speedy, go and enjoy their fantastic lunch menus instead!  Either way you won’t be disappointed!
