A survey by Mumsnet (for The Sun) asked its members what they would really like for Mother’s Day. They responded with simple ideas, but ones which are often so difficult to achieve when life gets in the way. Solution? Get your ideas from the list below and combine with a short break, leaving the stress and strain of life behind for a well deserved breath of fresh air.
So, here is the list of gifts you could give that may make the perfect Mother's Day...
Hand-made card You don’t have to be Van Gogh to impress your mum on Mother’s Day. A great way to give her a card she will love is take the time. Take a walk and see what leaves, flowers or bark you can find to make something well thought out and unique. If you are near the sea, do a spot of beach-combing, for shells, and pieces of glass worn down by the water – then let your imagination run riot!
Flowers Yes, you could buy a fancy bouquet, but do you know, lots of mums would be delighted with a bunch of sunny daffodils to brighten the home! Cornwall has fields of daffs and they can be found in all sorts of shops and countless varieties so no problem there!
Walk with the family Whether its in a sheltered woodland walk where the bluebells are beginning to show their heads, or a breath-taking coastal walk, we’re sure your mum will love the fresh air and fun of time with her family.
Dinner cooked for her It doesn’t have to be fancy and maybe after a refreshing walk in the country a simple warming stew will be most welcome. If you are no cook, perhaps a cosy table by the fire in a local pub will be a real treat.
Hugs and cuddles Snuggled up by the fire in the living room, what can be finer than a snuggle from someone you love. Our cottages are cosy and warm – the perfect temperature for the finest cuddle!
Peace and quiet Ahh, now Tregolls can definitely offer a load of this! It doesn’t matter how rural your own home may be, there’s always work to be done, washing, gardening, bills, DIY or whatever. The best way to get some real peace and quiet is to leave it all behind you and travel to a rural spot where there’s only the distant sound of cows mooing and church bells ringing.
Hot bath Perhaps with some nice bubble bath and some tealights to aid the calm for a truly relaxing bath. Perhaps take the kids out to play? We’ve got an indoor play barn and an outdoor area to ensure mum has plenty of R&R whilst they let off steam ready for a quiet night’s rest!
Family time Our guests tend to notice their family time seems to be far more congenial than at home. Everything is new and exciting and a standard family board game can be far more fun when nestled in a cottage in the Cornish countryside with the fire burning merrily and with a glass of wine. If you don’t believe that “family time” doesn’t always mean arguments and disagreements, then book a short stay for Mother’s Day – we know you won’t be disappointed!
