One of our visitors recently reported on a wonderful sunny evening at Polkerris beach near Par/St Austell, just 15 miles from Tregolls Farm Cottages.
They had visited years ago and had been put off by the parking in this typical, single lane, Cornish fishing village but were lured here with news of a super fish-restaurant on the beach called Sam’s. As they booked for around 7pm the car park had plenty of spaces, with a lovely walk down to the shore, past cottages nestled into the valley with pretty floral gardens.
They recommend you book in advance, and you can then reserve a window seat to enjoy views across this pretty, sandy beach whilst enjoying the most fantastic mussels, lobster, mackerel, prawns, paella or huge seafood platter! Sam’s is also famous for their perfect pizzas and yummy burgers for those who prefer something else!
From their vantage point they watched paddle-boarders making the most of the calm waters, sheltered by the harbour wall and families enjoying the last of the day’s sunshine on the quieter beach.
After eating their fill – not even having room to try the amazing puddings – including a magnificent glass bowl (looking something like a fruit bowl) full of ice-cream, chocolate brownie, marshmallows, and lashings of chocolate sauce, served with two spoons which tempted them, they walked off some of the calories with a beautiful evening walk along the beach. Whilst young people searched around for the perfect skimming stones and others simply paddled in the cool sea or stopped to breathe it all in, enjoy the moment and appreciate!
For further refreshment the Rashleigh Arms has always offered the welcoming charm of a fishing village pub! Good pub food is provided and from the benches outside you can have the perfect view from which to sup a cool beer and watch the changing of the tides.
This evening was one of those perfect moments, before they made their way home to Tregolls Farm Cottages for a long and refreshing night’s sleep….
